It's so important for me to make art and share it | March 2017

Gas stations with their already classic self-service shops submerged in a tropical night, glistening between ferns and leafy trees, or a terminal patient lying in a bed connected through several probes to tree branches, someone close to an addict Looking lost, sitting on his bed smoking a cigar and with dozens of packs of drugs at his feet on top of a hill that allows to see a jungle landscape that extends behind him ... Androgynous beings that expire an aura in Blue occasions, another intense rose, still life with birthday balloons and a particular interpretation of The Last Supper which, unlike the multiple versions that have had that theme throughout the history of art, this one by David LaChapelle, is composed Of heads of the personages on cartones, that appear next to hands and arms of props, each personage in a painting. That is what visitors to the Lost + Found show that was inaugurated last night at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas (ICC) found, as well as a great vinyl that summarizes the commercial recently directed by the American artist for the brand of Clothes Diesel that counts on the slogan Make love not walls.

In the work of LaChapelle, the titles merge in a particular way with the visual proposal so that it manages to detonate a myriad of ideas: Once in paradise, Paradise Transfusion, Shell Gas Station, Jesus and Buddha under a tree and Gaia, are Some examples.

Art is necessary | March de 2017

More than 10 years ago, David LaChapelle moved to Hawaii, moving away from the hectic celebrity life he led in California. His surroundings now became nature, jungle; In a somewhat isolated place.

The change of environment inspired him to work several photographic series away from advertising and fashion, areas in which he became famous. While using the same technique, he is no longer selling anything.

"Now I have complete freedom to do what I want," he says in an interview from London.

LaChapelle will premiere this March 30 at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas the series in which he has worked in the last decade, which have not been shown to the public.

The photographer has difficulty explaining what the new compositions are about. It speaks of paradise, of nature, of man mixed with it. He says he is not good with words because he is a visual person. In addition, he prefers the viewer to give him his own interpretation.

"What I did on the commercial level was just the warm-up phase to get to this," adds LaChapelle.

The series New World and Lost & Found - this last one is also a book that will be released this year - wink with the religious passages, including Christ.
