LATIN AMERICA HAS BEEN A MILESTONE IN
THE ARTISTIC LIFE OF DAVID LACHAPELLE
.

LATIN AMERICAN BACKGROUND

In 2009, when he exhibited for the first time in México City at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso he was received with an overwhelming audience and welcomed by the members of the press. More than 200,000 people visited his solo exhibit that proved to be more than a revelation to hispanics. His long influence of Italian Artists was matched by his influence in Muralists such as Diego Rivera and Orozco.

Previously, during a journey in Italy (2006), the artist has the chance of a private visit of the Sistine Chapel; his artistic sensibility is so unsettled by the beauty and power of Roman art that those elements give the ultimate drive to the necessity of a change of his artistic production.

Until then LaChapelle prefers that his photos would be published on fashion magazines and books, without critical texts.

The goal has never been to restrict to the mere picture, but to reach the broader audience as possible – this is the way to be a pop artist – and lead the lecture of his work on emotional shock level.

LaChapelle pushed his aesthetics to the limit, but in 2006 walked out on the scene.

He turned away from worldliness in order to live in a wild island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean “I said what I wanted to say”.

He selects his public appearances, prefers museums and art galleries, instead of magazine, to show his photos, while celebrities images almost fade out from his works.

LaChapelle steps in another chapter of his life and the turning point is Deluge, modeled after The Flood by Michelangelo.

David LaChapelle has held 7 solo exhibits in prestigious museums in Latin America. His first show in the region was at the MALBA in Buenos Aires -Argentina (2007), Museo Brasileiro da Escultura in Sao Paulo -Brazil (2008), two record braking exhibits in Mexico with more than 200,000 visitors; first at the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso in Mexico City - Mexico (2009), followed by the Museo de Las Artes in Guadalajara - Mexico (2009). He further continued exhibiting at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo of San Juan -Puerto Rico (2011), and just recently with a highly successful show in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Lima - Perú (2015) and in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo of Santiago, Chile (2015).

Additionally his work was seen from May to July, 2015 in Bogotá - Colombia as part of the Fotográfica Bogotá 2015 Bienale, in yet another solo exhibit at the Lamazone Gallery, and in the Ch.ACO Art Fair in Santiago, Chile, from September 23 to 27, 2015 in the AFA Gallery.
