The director, photographer and documentary filmmaker David LaChapelle, a reference in the world of artistic photography, fashion and advertising, arrives for the first time to Uruguay with an exhibition that will remain open for several months and have four venues in Montevideo.

He, the man who was discovered by Andy Warhol in the '80s while touring New York galleries; photographer of provocative aesthetics, author of advertisements that break schemes and several covers of international magazines such as "Vogue" in its Italian and French versions, "Vanity Fair", "GQ", "Rolling Stone", among others. He, the filmmaker, director of documentaries, video clips, and portraitist of celebrities like Madonna, Eminem, Warhol himself, Lance Armstrong, Pamela Anderson, Elizabeth Taylor, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hillary Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Lady Gaga and many more. He, the contemporary artist David LaChapelle (USA, 1963), comes for the first time to Uruguay in June. And it is not just a pit stop. The circuit of exhibitions presented under the title "Imaginary Dialogues" will have four venues and, in some cases, the calendar extends its presence until October.

CIENTO OCHENTA | Photographer David LaChapelle will visit Montevideo | Junio de 2016

David LaChapelle, photographer and director known for the hyper realistic aesthetics of his work, will come for the first time to Uruguay to participate in two lectures and exhibit his work at four venues simultaneously.

The circuit of works of LaChapelle that will come to Montevideo bears the name of "Dialogos Imaginarios" (Imaginary Dialogues)and will consist of nearly a hundred pieces to be distributed in four venues, forming different artistic proposals: "Postmodernism", "Contemporaneity", "Symbols of immortality" and "Enlightenment" according to the statement of the organization. In this first visit of LaChapelle to Uruguay, two conferences will be held with the artist: one will be on Tuesday June 21st. at the National Museum of Visual Arts at 18:30, with free admission; and the other will be on Wednesday June 22nd at 18:00 in AGADU, where he will participate in a panel with Diego Masi, Alexis Buenseñor and Carlos Fernandez Ballesteros.

David LaChapelle has more than 30 years of career in the visual arts, where his works were published in magazines such as Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Flaunt, having also worked with Andy Warhol at Interview magazine.

EL PAIS | David Lachapelle and a unmissable circuit | Junio de 2016

The artist will visit Uruguay and will bring four exhibitions.

Between June and October Montevideo will host the exhibition circuit: Imaginary Dialogues, of the prestigious American visual artist David LaChapelle. This is a unique event that includes four exhibitions, two lectures and various guided visits open to the public for free. At the same time it will be the first time that David LaChapelle, owner of an extensive and successful international career in the world of visual arts, presents four exhibitions simultaneously, in the same city, and also the artist will visit Montevideo.

The circuit opens on Thursday June 9th at 19:00 in the Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (Arenal Grande 1929) with Postmodernism, which continues on Wednesday 22nd at 19:30 in AGADU (Canelones 1122) with Symbols of Immortality. Inaugurations continue on Friday 24th at 19:00 in the Center of Photography (Av. 18 July 885) with Contemporaneity, and Union Foundation (Pza. Independencia 737) with Enlightenment.

EL OBSERVADOR | The photographer that will take Montevideo | Junio de 2016

Today opens the first of the four exhibits of David LaChapelle, who will arrive in Uruguay later this month.

The names surrounding the American photographer David LaChapelle are enormous. Too many, but necessary to visualize the caliber of the work of the American, who has portrayed Andy Warhol, Madonna and Leonardo DiCaprio, to name three of his models. In fact It was Warhol, himself who offered him one of his first jobs when he presented the opportunity to join his magazine Interview. There he portrayed other celebrities -Uma Thurman and Bjork, to name another two- whose photographs compose the archives of an artist who today owns a prolific career in the visual arts.

Part of that compendium of 30 years behind the camera as a photographer and even video director, can be witnessed firsthand in Montevideo, which will run from today in the Imaginary Dialogues circuit. It will consist of four different exhibits that will open throughout the month in the Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo (EAC), the Asociación General de Autores del Uruguay (Board of the General Association of Authors of Uruguay) (AGADU), the Centro de Fotografía de Montevideo (CDF) and the Union Foundation ( FU).

MIRA MAMA | LaChapelle opens 4 exhibitions simultaneously in Montevideo | Junio de 2016

Contemporary artist, photographer and director, David Lachapelle presents an exhibition for the first time in june this year.

The exhibition circuit will consist of 4 different venues in our city and consists of multiple sections which have a total of 89 photos. The curatorial work is specially designed individually for each venue and also as part of a comprehensive set of works. It will be the first time that David LaChapelle opens 4 simultaneous exhibition in the same city. The art exhibitions will be accompanied by two conferences. One aimed at students and the other for AGADU, where authors who are members of this organization are involved.

Large format works (some of more than 6 meters as "Deluge"), will be exhibited for the first time in Uruguay. LaChapelle approaches photography in a more conceptual way in the series of "Gas Stations and Landscapes" which expresses a surreal consideration of the exploitation of the resources of the Earth, or as in "Still Life and Earth Laughs in Flowers", the artist, face a topic that describes most of its production, it shows a critical view of the perception of beauty.
